“Weekend of upsets”
The weekend concluded with an interesting set of results to say the least.
Brumbies vs Force
The Brumbies vs Force was one way traffic, with the force really struggling to compete at this level. The Brumbes on the other hand , must learn to play the full 80 minutes if they want to make it to the knock out stages.
Chiefs vs Highlanders
On current form chiefs are the team to beat and are definitely going to feature in the play offs come end of season. However 4 missed kicks at goal and some bad options saw them coupled with poor reffing decisions saw them loose the game. Well played highlanders!
Blues vs Lions
My superbru picks weren’t looking great after this game, and this result didnt help me either. There are far to many individual efforts in the Blues team and not enough unity on the field of play, and add too this no apparent game plan. Sir John is under alot of pressure. On the other hand the Lions capitalized to great effect . They maximized on moving the ball into space and storing a try , not mention put in some great tackles on defense. Great win for the lions, this may help give them momentum for the rest of the tour.
Reds vs Tahs
Personally the reds are in no mans land at the moment . Players are out of position and dont know their exact roles, hence no game plan seems apparent? They need a new coach! Tahs also need to work on their ball control and score more tries! Bonus points will be vital in the later stages of the tournament . A good win against the Chiefs anyway.
Cheetahs vs Bulls
A game packed with physical domination and big hits not too mention a ref who looked out of his depth , lead a tense derby match . Bulls look like they are re gaining some form from previous seasons and could be dangerous when they go on their overseas tour. Cheetahs must learn to hold onto the ball.
Stormers vs Sharks
This game threatened to be a highly entertaining game of rugby from the top 2 teams in SA. However it was a case of one team playing the game and one who just didnt turn up. Stormers are playing well and showed some very good game basics and made the most of the opportunities presented them and luck of the bounce . The sharks never really got into gear, and with a few players being slotted in the starting line up straight from Japan, this was never going to be the case!
This week was another poor showing from the refs. Time and time again im seeing refs who dont have a feel for the game and fail to comprehend that the game is not about them! People attend games to watch and support their teams- not to watch the ref be the center of attention. Bring back rucking please!
We also heard this week from the All black coach that the game is becoming far too structured . Strange iv been syaing this for the last 10 years! Maybe the big boys will listen …or maybe not ?
