Southern hemisphere teams win their opening games
All Blacks vs USA
The All blacks played to a sellout crowd in Chicago against the USA. The game was aimed to promote rugby union in the US. The All Blacks ran out comfortable winners, just showing how far the rugby gap is between the two countries. A spectacle in itself was the sellout 60 000 plus crowd that turned up to support the side! It looked like many island countries were there to support the All Blacks. USA showed promise however there is still a long way to go before can compete at that level.
Australia vs Barbarians
Attacking flowing rugby with 11 tries scored in total. An absolute joy to watch with some good phase play leading to those tries. The reuniting of Genia and Cooper is a major positive for Australian Rugby. It also gives the Cheika the option of two fly halves, and add Beale in too the mix too.
Barbian games are notorious for running rugby and this game didn’t disappoint! Both teams almost ran themselves to a stand still by the end of the game! It was a good way for Michael Cheika to start off his career.
A week is a long time in rugby circles and this weeks clash against Wales will be very different. I think Cheika will be happy with the team, but will need his senior players to stand and be counted! Especially against a Welsh team who is under a bit of pressure.
